Quick update
To be honest, I'm spending every waking hour with my little boy because its just brilliant, playing, watching and chatting to him and I just don't have any time for stuff like writing blogs!
The only reason I have 10 Min's now is cos hes sat watching the Waybuloo's which he absolutely loves.
Plus I'm starting my new job on Wednesday so time with Brodie has been my number one priority, although I'm only working 14 hrs a week to start and I know he will be in safe hands with Daddy and good Friend Liv, who has become a childminder for Brodie.
Now to fill you in on the last 2 mths in 5 mins
- Chatting - he loves it! dif, takes after his mother, as he just doesn't shut up talking
- Swimming - I have a fish boy! he loves it, we go to Puddleducks once a week and this is by far his best weekly activity, he hasn't even cried at being dunked underwater and he took part in underwater photo shoot last week.
- Tears - we had our first ever tears on Halloween, and no not because of my costume! but because he was teething, had a cold and a chesty cough and was not a happy bunny. I think 4 and half months without tears is pretty impressive thought!
- Standing - this little boy is showing more signs of standing up on his own than rolling over. He just wants to be on his feet all the time
- Happy - the whole time I was pregnant I kept thinking I'm sure I'll have a devil child but I couldn't have been more wrong. He is sooo happy 95% of the time and only moans when hes tired, or I've forgotten to feed him! & trust me that doesn't happen often, to prove it, he is already over 17lbs!
Our next mission is sleeping through the night, but I'm not holding my breath on that one just yet!
I'm sure i'll be better with the blog post in the future, as the weather is getting grim so we're be out and about less, plus starting work again means i'll be getting use to a keyboard once again!
I'll post some photos soon...

Brodies 9 week update
Talking
Brodie is now in full swing of babytalk.. From birth everyone has commented on how he had his mothers mouth and it turns out everyone was indeed correct! Little Brodie enjoys a good old natter, just like his mum! Making cute sounds that makes you melt from the inside.
The Bottle!
In Brodies eyes, this is the dreaded bottle! The past few weeks has been an up hill struggle trying to get him to take a bottle. It started off terrible, then when we finally thought we had the knack of it things went down hill again. Once he learnt to latch on himself to the boobie he was no longer interested in the bottle. Fingers crossed though, we have found the solution - place him on a pillow facing away from you and after 5 mins of trying he seems to get the nack of it! Lets hope it stays that way and gets easier the more we do!
The Boobie
Well, from the start I always said I would be happy if I managed to feed him for two months... well mission completed! He is now 9 weeks old and i'm still feeding, and to be honest not even thinking about stopping. It took us so long & much pain to get where we are today with it, that its now become enjoyable and so much easier! Plus every day you feeding counts so i'm just going to keep on going
Jabs
Brodie has his first jabs last Friday. Personally I was dreading taking him, I dont even like taking the 8 stone dog for her jabs let alone an ikle brodie.
But mummy pulled herself together and got through it ok! Brodie was fine, he cried a little for the first, screamed for 30 secs on the second leg and then slept for almost 4 hours!
I was going to suggest that they should do the rest of his jabs at night so i could get a nice hours kips too!
The Night
which leads us to an update on the nights. There really isnt much of a routine, if hes hungry hes awake and when hes not he sleeps! Typically a night consists of two feeds, one about 1-2am and the second between 5 -6am. This pattern can however spontanously go out the window and I found myself feeding every 2 hrs.
He did impress me the other night though by going 6 hours! The only problem was that I was still waking up as the boobs were leaking all over the place.. one of the joys of breastfeeding.
Weight
Finally.. Brodie last weighted in at 9 weeks old at 13lb 14. Yes he is a little bruiser!

6 Weeks and a Smile
He is also so alert to everything these days, he cant be left for 10 mins without getting bored. You can see his little clockworks going as he watches the dog, or takes in the flashy lights on his toys, even the light reflected on the blind gets his brain going but best of all is when he follows me around the room or looks up when i come in the room, that in itself is feels so rewarding and worth the sleepless nights!
On tuesday our once 7.7lb little boy weighted in at 11.14lb!!!! The health visitors are really pleased with how good hes doing.
I have to say i'm so surprized at how fast he has stopped being a newborn and grow into a little boy, each day keeping us entertained with some new noise or facial expressions.
Today we are off for the six week MOT and the starting point for me to exercise and get rid of my rather terrible flabby belly! Last week I had lost two stone, so only two more to go, although i'm sure my boobs take up a stone of that!

What you have been waiting for.. the truth about labour!
10am Middle of course and the little niggles are getting a bit more intense, now I’m really beginning to wonder
11.30am One hour left to go and every 25 mins I’m gripping the side of the chair. The trainer keeps asking if I’m ok, I felt like saying “do I bloody look it” but grinned and told him I was fine. If I didn’t stay for the full three hours I had to return to finish the course
12.30am Free to go, with course certificate in hand (probably not one I would include on CV). Another contraction on way to car, think I best ring Mr T to give him the heads up that this could be it! He has a little nervous laugh and I tell him I’ll see him at home after work
1pm Meet Becky for lunch, we take a trip to North Street and still unsure whether this is it, I keep asking Becky for confirmation that I am in fact in Labour!
3pm Contractions more regular and getting strong so we think we best get home. Mr T still nervous I think as he starts to mow the grass, as I start to breath through contractions
5pm Ok, time for tens machine
7pm We ring the hospital, cos even though you are told when we need to go into hospital during anti natal classes, this information goes out the window and at this stage I think I must be nearly there! Oh how I was wrong. As expected, hospital fobs me off and tells me to stay at home
9pm K, seriously now, this has to be been hospital time, surely contractions are fully developed! We ring the hospital; they advise me to have a bath! My initial response is to ask whether they are being serious, but Mr T runs hot bath and to my surprise it helps a bit. By this stage Mr T is fully into the swing of being a birthing partner, with breathing techniques down to a T, although by now I have bitten his head off every time he almost misses a contractions and isn’t providing the “breath in, breath out” advice which I cant possible remember for myself.
11pm By now we have visited every room in the house, I have had contractions while being sick and even quite embarrassingly wet myself during a contraction which resulting in more tears. Surely it can’t get any worse than this, we ring the hospital again and they say to come in. What a huge relief I think – time for drugs!
11.30pn We arrive at St Michaels and contractions are really strong now, we have to stop three times while we walk to the delivery room for me to grab hold of bins, railings etc during contractions. On seeing the midwife I burst into tears and beg not to be sent home.
11.40pm Midwife examines me, I’m 3cm dilated, I ask for the gas & air which I’m told isn’t allowed until I reach 4/5cm, so I ask for an epidural convinced that I can not take the pain any longer. I’m also declined this and offered pethidine – sold I’ll take it if it gets rid of pain!
12 midnight Pethidine has now kicked in, I still feel pain but sleepy at same time
2am Midwife returns to examine me and I start to pray that I’m not only 4cm. 6-7 cm, excellent!! My first question is for the gas and air, within seconds it’s in my mouth and I’m puffing away. Midwife makes a comment “this baby will here by 6am” I looked at the clock and thought “thank god, only 4 hours to go” the midwife said she needed to go and get some bits ready for delivery.
2.30am Midwife returns and I’m convinced that I need a number two! I keep telling her and she seems to suddenly snap into action, asking if my waters have broken, at which time they haven’t. Next contraction and the waters go…
2.40am The poo I thought I needed has turned into pushing… oh my god doesn’t this hurt! Very strange feeling as you can feel the baby and feel like you can feel how far it has left to come out, but the burning pain is unbelievable.
2.45am The midwife is telling me to pant pant.. oh god I think to myself, this means I’m going to rip if I don’t pant, I fully intend to listen to the midwife, but in the middle of pushing and the urge to push this seems impossible, and then its to late the damage is done.
2.50am Last contraction.. out comes the head swiftly followed by the rest of the body and apparently a gush of fluid!
Brodie George Taylor has arrived.
At this point I’m so high on gas and air, I can’t remember the point I found out he was a boy but can remember the midwife asking what his name was. Mr T looked at me, and I don’t think he dared say a name I didn’t like after the terrible ordeal he had just witnessed me going through.
They say that when they baby is put on you for the first time you forget about the pain, I can honestly say this is a load of rubbish! The pain I was experiencing was excruciating and all I could think about was the midwife sorting out the pain below.
In-between this pain, I’m asked if I want an injection to delivery placenta, I’m sure before I even had chance to answer the needle was stuck in and I was contracting and delivering the placenta, this part I can honestly stay I don’t really remember so the pain couldn’t have been that bad.
3am Finally the midwife is ready to repair and patch up the damage caused by the quick delivery and me not panting. This I can honest say is the part that traumatised me the most about the whole delivery, from the injections to the stitching was absolutely awful and Mr T would agree that this was a terrible scene.
3.45am Damage repaired and an hour after delivering I finally get chance to enjoy my little boy.
I fed Brodie for an hour and start looking at what an amazing, perfect little boy we have made.
Now I’m a mummy and going to truly enjoy every single minute!

Breastfeeding - hardwork but well worth the reward!
From the moment I found out I was pregnant I was determined to give my little one the best possible start in live and have had friends who breastfed and talked about the great benefits. I always said I would like to do at least two months feeding, but obviously this depended on circumstances as well as how I got on with it.
I first fed Brodie an hour after he was born and at the time I though “oh this is easy” but I was wrong. After 24 hours I had sore nipples, had no sleep and was advised to stay in hospital until both Brodie and I had the technique down to a T. After a difficult first night at home, I begin to understand why so many people give up in the first few days.
On our second day at home we had our first home visit with the midwife and I was so relieved to see her. She showed us new positions to feed and gave me more confidence and since then I haven’t look back. Yes I get tired as I’m the only one who can get up in the night to feed, and yes my boobs leak and get sore…but the benefits for Brodie outweigh any problems I might be having and to me what’s a few less hours sleep compared to Brodies getting the best start in life?
Mind you, in a few weeks time I will be taking advantage of the option to express so daddy can do some night feeds!
My biggest fear about feeding, especially while I can’t express and still have to work on getting Brodie latched on, was feeding in public. But I was so surprised at the facilities available for mum’s who feed. Cabot Circus the new shopping centre in Bristol have purpose build private Family Rooms for changing and feeding. I was well impressed and this made the shopping trip so much easier and I was pleasantly surprised! I guess this goes to show the increasing demand for this kind of facilities and the growing popularly of breast feeding.
Two weeks old today!
We had our final midwife visit on Monday and he was weighted at 8.9lb, so I predict he’s over 9lb now which is pretty impressive. I believe the weight gain is from me feeding him, you know what they say “breast is best” and this little one certainly loves the booby!
Health visitor will start her visits tomorrow.

Brodie George Taylor has arrived..
How is he? amazing, truely amazing.
How was labour? Painful - very! Quick - apparently yes -I'm one of the lucky ones who completed 2nd stage labour in 10 mins! I'll post full labour details when I have a bit more time.

Discovered a new labour trigger...
In the last few weeks people have made / given all kinds of suggestions which may help to bring on labour, some of which are listed below:
Hot curry /food - Chilly flakes have been added in almost every dish I've made recently
Sex – umm certainly not top of your list when your 39 weeks pregnant!
Bumpy roads - trips in the work van have been a regular request!
Pineapple - new one to me but cant see that working tbh
Well today I discovered a new technique to bring on labour - attend a Speed Awareness course!
Yep, it may cost you 60 quid (but you don’t get 3 points), and you may have to spend 3 hours of your day listening to everything there is to know about the effects /dangers of speeding but in my case there was an added plus – the contractions kicked in.
That started this morning and its now 5pm, and they are coming faster & stronger which is why I’m sat writing this blog, Mr T says it will take my mind off the pain, ha ha that’s how much he bloody knows, see how much longer he keeps that up without me biting his head off!
Looks like we have a long night ahead, so I’m signing off to go read the instructions on my tens machine.
Next blog will be a good one! Wish me luck !!!

I have Boobs!
A good part of being pregnant - my boobs are now a 36 DD.. first and only time in my life I have more than a handful!
Don’t get me wrong though, they certainly aren’t page 3 DD’s, and defiantly have more of a “mummy” look about them, not that glamorous without the clothing I’m afraid!
Apparently they get bigger still when babytays arrives, but I’m also guessing that they will never look the same as they did on my wedding night, 10 months ago!

Blessed with wide pelvis!
Well today was a bit more interesting! I expected to be told that baby was fully engaged, as two weeks ago it was 4/5ths. Claire, my midwife felt the bump for babytays location, and after much feeling around was unsure whether the hard lump at the top of my bump was ass or head.. and she was unable to feel the head down in the pelvis.
She told me there were two situations – either babytays had decided to already become a pain in the ass (literally) and had turned to the breach position, which would result in a c- section, my very worse nightmare! Or I was lucky enough to have been blessed with a very wide pelvis and babytays was buried down deep, which is why the head couldn’t be found.
To find out I was sent to St Michaels for a scan to confirm the position. I spent the whole journey with my fingers crossed that it wasn’t breach, as like I said C section is some ladies dream, but for me would be worse nightmare, I cant think of anything worse than being effectively injured for 6 weeks – no driving etc etc. The only plus side would have been that the operation would have been booked in for 39 weeks, which means babytays would arrive on the 22nd June.
Well I had the scan, and luck was on my side, I was told babytays is deep in my wide pelvis and I’m just waiting for contractions.
When my midwife called later in the day to see how I got on, I asked if it ment I would delivery early, she replied “not early, but it will be a quick labour!” that reply was good enough for me and has eased my labour fears slightly more!!

34 weeks down, 6 to go!
With working full time, trying to finish all the DIY at home, as well as my urge for keeping my house completely spotless I have to say I have no energy levels and no brain power to write a blog on the evening…
The tiredness stage at the beginning of the pregnancy has returned, and when I do get a release of energy, it is all used up cleaning, repeatedly! I currently have an addiction to an apple fragranced disinfectant, which I just have to have my house smell of, I love it! Very odd I know..
Well anyway, I have hit the 34-week mark this week, or I am in my 35th week, as some information will say..
How am I feeling? Big.. really big
How do I look? Big… really big..
But seriously, yes very excited now but also a ikle scared of the whole labour process. This week will be my third session at anti natal and it has just brought everything out of hiding.
I have found them useful, and Mr T managed to attend last weeks to learn all about the “non” normal labour.. umm not good information to tell them in advance, I expect he will be running off to the Robin Hood pub next door in a panic!
At the moment I’m trying to stick with the attitude that it has to come out, so lets just go with it.. no point worrying too much as I have no choice now! Apparently, the more you relax (yea right) the faster and easier the baby comes out. I have said to Mr T if he repeats that to me when I’m in the height of pain it may not go down too well!
Generally, though, I’m trying to stay positive about labour because firstly and most importantly I get to meet BabyTays, and secondly I can start to fit into my clothes again.
I think this is the most stressful part for me. Although I was very lucky as I expanded on the tummy area from an early stage but the rest of me stayed the same, in fact, I was even wearing my own jeans up until a few weeks ago.
Until that is I woke up once morning after hitting 32 weeks and bang.. I was huge, even getting out the bed I needed to roll and from then on I have just grown and grown.. My arms are fat, my legs are huge (well they feel huge) I cant even pull my jeans over my ass, and my maternity clothes are even getting tight, in fact I have considered just going to work in my pj’s, so at least I will be comfortable. I have to say, I am looking forward to getting my body back again and actually feeling nice when I get dressed in the morning!
Oh well, the long haul of it is over and soon I will become a Mummy and I cant bloody wait!!
5 weeks and 5 days to go and counting!!!
Although the midwife said only 4% arrive on due date, my fingers are crossed my date comes early and not two weeks late!

If I was given a pound..
Just to let you all know -I have 11 weeks to go, yes I am big and have been for what seems like ages, although its slowing down now thank god! No, its not twins and finally I'm praying its not a big baby!
The last comment has had the worse effect on me as I keep having dreams (or should i say nightmares) that the baby arrives huge and in one dream it looked likes a 3 month old not new born... I blame Lisa for her dream that it was a 20lb baby..eekk..
11 weeks to go and counting.. I'm hoping the time now flys by!
BabyTays get a nursery!
Now that is what I call a successfully Easter Bank Holiday weekend! Rewind one year and we would have both, most likely, be sat here nursing the hangover from hell after spending a Sunday knocking back the shots.
Easter 2009 and despite sickness hitting hard (note to self: pick up prescription tomorrow to re stock on tablets) we have had the most enjoyable bank holiday: painting, building wardrobes, cleaning (or nesting as some might call it) and shopping for nursery accessories!
We’ve painted the room Picket Fence (a warmish white), with oak fitted wardrobe and of course the Hodge Podge items with includes hedgehogs, birds, mice and foxes - a few of the items are pictured below.

Fudge Brain!
Previously a very well organised person is slowly turning into a forgetful dimwit! A women who loves to chat – to suddenly forget the end of the sentence half way through, to walk into the kitchen 3 times and forget each time what I went in for seems to be amusing Mr T!
A classic example is cooking tea last night, first a hot baking tray slips into my hand so what do I do? use my other hand to pick it up..doh! result = two burnt hands. This is followed by me covering my hands in sudocrem, and then attempting to pick up a glass of drink, you can guess the end result. But on a bright side Mr T had a good old chuckle, while I cried and snotted like a kid on his shoulder mumbling about how useless I had become! 10 mins later and i was feeling much better.
The joys of fudge brains!
I’m sure this is just the start of some classic fudge brain incidents, which are sure to follow in the coming weeks.
